The Sirimon Naromoru route offers the best summit success rate for beginners.Cut across the dense forest, moorland and witness unique wildlife and vegetation.
We drive from Nairobi to the foot of the highest mountain in Kenya, Sirimon Park gate. After clearance at the gate, we commence our Mount Kenya hike through forest, bamboo and wide spread heather zone after which we get to Old Moses camp at 3,300m on a moorland for dinner and overnight stay. The climb is gentle gaining a 680m ascent
We further ascend up Mount Kenya after breakfast, branching left at the junction. After one hour from Old Moses Camp, the path brings us to Ontulili River flowing with fresh water from Mount Kenya glaciers. We rest briefly to drink and refill our water bottles. We continue with our hike through the Moorland and crossing Liki North up to Mackinder’s Valley. From this valley the three main peaks of the highest mountain in Kenya are visible; point Lenana, Batian and Nelion. Hyrax, monkeys and different bird species can be seen on this route as well. We settle for dinner and night rest at the Mount Kenya Shipton Camp (4200m.)
This day’s Mount Kenya hike begins at 3am. We leave the camp onto the rocky path that leads to point Lenana. We get there at 6:30am after 3hrs, to enjoy the sunrise. The soft lighting of the sun hitting Mount Kenya snow at dawn is picture perfect. It will leave you awestruck as it ignites everything else leaving new life along its path. Descend down to Mackinder’s camp the second camp on Naromoru route to rest and have breakfast. We continue to descend down Mount Kenya through the vertical bog unique to the Naromoru route to Met station for lunch. Later have diner and spend the night at the Mount Kenya Met station cabins.
After breakfast we descend to Naromoru Park gate at the foot of the highest mountain in Kenya. A journey that takes 3 hours. There is a vehicle ready to drive us back to Nairobi arriving early in evening.
