Mount Kenya Burguret route is rarely used though it is one of the most exciting routes to climb the highest mountain in Kenya. You have to literally make your own path through the rainforest till you reach the open moorland. There are no huts on this route and it is less crowded. There are two options to point Lenana through the Austrian or Mackinder huts that are closest to the summits. Burguret route is greatly referred to in the book ‘No Picnic On Mount Kenya’ by Felice Benuzzi.
Most importantly, Mount Kenya Burguret route stands out because it’s a more quitter route. On this route, the odds of spotting wildlife and unique vegetation are as high as the Mount Kenya itself. You’ll go through the montane forest with gigantic Yellowwood and Cidar trees then continue through a dense bamboo belt. On the Mount Kenya Burguret route, you will also have to pass through an expansive moorland. Once you’re done with the vegetation it’s a hard rocky trail to Mount Kenya summit.

Despite being a famously arduous route, Burguret route offers some of the best, if not the best, views while climbing Mount Kenya. The journey through the montane forest, bamboo belt, and the moorland offer spectacular wildlife scenes. You’ll get to see elephants, buffalos, bushbucks, and hundreds of moorland birds like eagles and buzzards. Additionally, since the Mount Kenya Burguret route gets the least visitors, you can freely go exploring with your hiking team undisturbed. Turquoise tarns with shimmering glaciers overhead provide vast scenic areas for spirited exploration.
