Growing up in Nanyuki, at the foot of Mount Kenya, I was always fascinated by tourists and mountain climbing guides with their gear and walking sticks. After school, I trained and worked as a porter and a cook for several years before becoming a certified guide at EquitorialStar Adventures & Safaris. Surprisingly, even after trekking the mountains countless times, climbing Mount Kenya still provides the same thrill I got as a little boy. Every time is different and more beautiful; nature is always evolving. I am glad to be part of a team of people who are as, if not more, enthusiastic and passionate about nature. We love conserving the natural ecosystem of the mountains and national parks we visit, like Amboseli National Park. Our team has more than fifteen members.
What started as a quest for answers out of curiosity has grown into a passion and a 15-year career as one of EquitorialStar’s mountain climbing guides. The journey has been most rewarding. Certainly, the unique vegetation on Mount Kilimanjaro still intrigues me to this day. And, as a result, the tiny details that make up the majestic mountain and the Masai Mara remind me of how we all matter, regardless of size, race, or tribe. As a Christian, mountain climbing cements my faith and makes me appreciate God’s creativity. I am honored to be made in His image and likeness. The wonderful and friendly guests I meet on every mountain hike with my fellow mountain climbing guides teach me different languages and tell me about their cultures. It is like visiting different countries in one single trip.
