Discover the Loita Hills through the eyes of the Maasai.
Embark on a remarkable 4-day Loita Hills trekking adventure combining hiking, Maasai culture, wilderness camping, wildlife tracking, and breathtaking mountain landscapes.
The Loita Hills offer an experience far removed from the typical Kenyan safari. It is one of Kenya's most culturally significant wilderness areas. A rugged, mountainous landscape filled with ancient forests that the Maasai have maintained for countless generations.
There are no crowded tourist routes or lines of safari vehicles in Loita Hills. Instead, you travel on foot with local Maasai guides, following ancient trails through forests, plains, valleys, and remote wilderness as they share their traditional knowledge and ways of the forest.
Discover sacred forests, traditional manyattas, natural hot springs, ancient trails, rocky caves, and wildlife tracks on your Loita Hills hike.
We depart from Nairobi or the Maasai Mara and drive towards Maji Moto, a traditional Maasai community located at the edge of the Loita Hills.
Upon arrival, we meet our local Maasai guides and begin the cultural experience. Our tour of Loita Hills begins with a guided walk through the community, where we learn about traditional Maasai life, customs, pastoral traditions, and the Maasai people's relationship with their land.
The day also includes a visit to the famous Maji Moto natural hot springs to relax and take in the area's volcanic landscape.
Depending on the day's arrangements, you may also enjoy traditional Maasai cultural activities, including warrior demonstrations, storytelling, singing, and interactions with community members.

Meals: Lunch & Dinner
After breakfast, we begin our walking safari into the spectacular Loita Hills, accompanied by local Maasai guides.
We leave the community behind, following a trail that gradually takes us deeper into the remote wilderness, trekking through open grasslands, indigenous vegetation, rocky terrain, and forested areas while learning about the landscape from your Maasai guides. Along the way, the guides will teach traditional knowledge of the area, including animal tracks, plants, water sources, and places of cultural significance.
The day's destination is Eco Cave, a natural rocky shelter historically associated with Maasai warriors and wilderness activities.
We enjoy an evening around the camp, surrounded by the sounds and atmosphere of the Loita wilderness.

After breakfast, we continue our Loita Hills hike deeper into the forests towards Olorien. The trek takes us through the spectacular Naimina Enkiyio Forest, also known as the Forest of the Lost Child. This ancient indigenous forest, with old-growth olive trees, is one of the most culturally important areas in the Loita Hills. Walk beneath towering indigenous trees and through valleys, rolling hills, rocky sections, and ancient wildlife trails.
Keep your eyes open for forest birds, monkeys, gazelles, zebras, and other signs of wildlife. Your Maasai guides will help you identify animal tracks and explain the traditional knowledge associated with the forest.
Throughout the day, learn about the cultural and spiritual significance of Naimina Enkiyio and the Maasai community's traditional relationship with this unique ecosystem.
Continue towards Olorien, where we’ll settle into your bush camp and enjoy another peaceful evening in the wilderness.

Today's trail crosses the beautiful Loita Hills landscapes, with expansive plains, rolling terrain, and indigenous forests offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
The area is deeply connected to Maasai history, traditions, and spiritual beliefs. As we continue hiking, the guides will continue sharing their knowledge of the land and provide help in interpreting wildlife tracks and signs. We may encounter zebras, gazelles, monkeys, and numerous bird species along the way.
After completing the trek, we transfer back to Maji Moto basecamp for lunch and relax for a while before beginning our journey back to Nairobi.
You can continue the adventure with a Maasai Mara game drive safari to view the Big 5 and other wildlife.
